December 2016

What a month! Along with the usual run-up to Christmas festivities (mince pie making, winter walks with Mum and Lass, Christmas shopping and wrapping) we had the added enjoyment/excitement of having our first baby scan!! On 20th December we went to Nobles for an ultrasound where we saw our little one for the first time - moving around in it's little uterus play-pen! It was a really amazing moment seeing it on the screen for the first time, confirming the reality of us becoming parents in just over 6 months time! The sonographer was able to tell us that I was 11 weeks 3 days along, with a due date of 8th July 2017 Once we had the scan pictures we broke the news to the family over the next few days (having already told my Mum on the day she came back from New Zealand!). I would say that Christmas this year was a fairly chilled event - to be honest I didn't have the usual energy or motivation....and not being able to share in the fizz/beer/wine/port made things slightly more low key (yet healthier!) than other years! But it was really nice to be able to chill (I stayed at mum's from 22-26th and then at Glenn's for a few days while Max and Zoe were over), play games, take naps, eat when I liked (which I did a lot of!) and be as energetic as I liked 🙂 While at mum's we got out for plenty of nice walks up in the hills and played games in front of the fire, and at Margie's we also played games, ate lots of roasts and had a trip out to hunt for wallabies 🙂 New Year's Eve was also a quiet affair - we went down to the Duggan's for the buffet and chit chat and joined the family for part of the pub crawl (even though it was windy and wet!) to the Bay, Falcs and Station before we retired back to Failt Erriu (about 10.30pm) where we chilled with Mum and welcomed 2017 in with hugs and excited expectations for the year to come. After a lovely Christmas break it was nice to get back to the flat, clear away the Xmas tree and deccy's and get back into some sort of 'normal' routine (for a while at least!). We've got more midwife appts and scans happening over the next few months, and lots of decisions to make about work/living etc so watch this space for updates! Here's a few pics from over the Christmas period:
