London 7-11 November 2014

We're recently back from a busy yet really enjoyable short break in London...here's what we got up to in a nutshell! We headed down on the Friday night and stayed in Earlsfield (just south of the river) with Glenn's friend from uni, Binny and her husband Andy who were wonderful hosts. On Saturday Binny took us on a walking tour of the area and then we caught the train over to Morden to see Emily & John (and friends) to celebrate the arrival of their little daughter Evie. We spent Saturday evening with Binny and Andy in Clapham enjoying a few drinks and chats...and then on Sunday we met Max and Zoe at London Bridge and had lunch before having a wander round Spitalfields market which was a really nice area. We returned to Earlsfield for a lovely Sunday chicken roast with Bunny & Andy and then on Monday we headed into central London, taking in South Kensington, Harrods and Hyde Park before checking in at our hotel in Paddington. We spent the afternoon wandering through a busy Regent St before meeting Max again for a few drinks and food round Covent Garden. Tuesday was our last day - while Glenn met with a work colleague I headed to Trafalgar Square for the two minutes silence (11th - Remembrance Day) which was a spine tingling experience seeing (and hearing) central London come to a complete stand-still for 2 minutes. I then walked over to Covent Garden and met John, Emily & Evie before Glenn met us...after a nice catch up Glenn and I went to Cafe Rouge for some food before taking a whistle-stop walking tour round The Mall, Downing St, Big Ben and Parliament. We then tackled the transport system for the last time - getting the tube back to Paddington to collect our bags then the tube to Victoria, train to Gatwick and then flight back up to Edinburgh. Although London is a crazily busy place it was great to spend a short space of time there seeing the sights and catching up with friends! 🙂
