Carlops & North Esk Reservior Walk – 30 June
This was a fairly straightforward 7km loop starting in the small village of Carlops which is in the Pentlands, and just 15 miles from Edinburgh. The walk took us on a path shadowing the main road and then we took a track through farmland and ascended up into the hills....where it started to rain quite heavily. For some reason, Glenn had decided not to bring his brand new rain jacket with him, preferring a lightweight non-waterproof jumper, and unsurprising he got rather wet! The path took us over a hill and then down towards the North Esk reservoir. Apparently a hang out for migrating birds, there were no signs of wildlife while we were there. We took the opportunity whilst sheltering under some trees to enjoy a flask of tea and chocolate bar, before following a farm track all the way back over to Carlops village.
Although the weather wasn't great it was a nice walk letting us see more of the Pentlands.
