Lake District (Apr 2016) – Day 3 – Elterwater
Monday 18 April
Today’s weather forecast was overcast and showers so we spent the first couple of hours catching up on work and having a chilled breckie. We then donned our waterproofs and drove 3 miles to the village of Elterwater – a lovely little place I hadn’t been before. From Elterwater we did a circuitous 5 mile walk taking us along the edge of Elter water, past Skelwith Force to Skelwith Bridge and then rising up to see Colwith Force before heading back to Elterwater. We encountered just a few passing showers on the walk and so were able to take in the panoramic views of the surrounding fells (check out the photos below of the walk). The walk took us about 2.5hours; once we arrived back in Elterwater we enjoyed a half pint sat outside the local pub before returning to Ambleside.
We spent the rest of the afternoon chilling/working and then early evening we drove over to Windermere (taking in the lovely sunset views) where we bought a few food bits from Booths before heading back for a nice evening in.
