Castle Terrace Restaurant – 25 June
Castle Terrace Restaurant is a Michelin star restaurant located just next to the castle in Edinburgh; with the strapline 'from nature to plate' it prides itself in providing a Scottish produce based menu. Glenn and I were lucky enough to sample the 3 course lunch menu courtesy of my lovely family who had bought me vouchers for my birthday (thank you!!).
From the moment we walked in and throughout the meal the staff were really attentive, and when it came to ordering they were really knowledgeable about the food (even telling us step by step what ingredients made up our starter!)
So...on to the food 🙂 First came a plate with 3 little canapés each (before we had ordered any food) - a mini ravioli filled with cod, a Caesar salad canapé and a mini burger canapé. Next we had an amuse bouche which was blended carrot, coriander foam/mousse with a cumin seed topping...delicious! Unfortunately we didn't take any photos as we wanted to blend in with the rest of the clientèle who looked like they ate there every day...however the first two pictures on this blog are the same as what we had: http://twicebakedsouffle.com/2012/05/22/castle-terrace-restaurant-edinburgh/.
For our actual meal we both ordered the same dishes - rabbit kidney risotto for starter and then  a beef and ox tongue main.  The risotto was made with spelt grain and was really tasty, really rich and also quite filling! The main course had a pea puree base, then potato, an ox tongue filo pastry (which tasted like black pudding) and beef slices on top. Although it didn't look like a huge amount on the plate every bite was delicious and by the end of the meal I was stuffed! However, not to be defeated we both went for pudding (it would have been rude not to!) and chose lemon and raspberry profiteroles with ginger ice cream. YUM YUM YUM!!
I was soooooo full by the end of the meal I actually fell asleep for an hour as soon as we got home! Glenn and I both agreed this was the best restaurant experience and food we've ever had...so thanks again for the vouchers guys!!
