Beinn na Lap – (My first!) Munro – 935 m (3067 ft) – Bike ride and camping
Climbed my first Munro at the weekend! We (cousin Davey and his mates Do, Mikey and Terry) did plan to do 3 in total, but I don't think anyone was in any fit state the day after to do the second set. We started out a on the main road about half an hour east of Fort William. We all got packed up with our kit and set off on the bikes with 9 miles ahead to reach our camping spot. Now I'm not in the best shape anyway but you'd be amazed what difference it makes with about 20kg's on your back! My arse was seriously hurting after a few miles! I knew the return leg would be a lot easier without the water, box of wine and about 5kg of meat I was carrying.
We got there in the end and cousin Andrew was already there with his son. By the time we set our tents us etc it was getting on for 6 oclock and we set off up Bein na Lap (means Dappled hill) at about 7. It was tough at the beginning but levelled off towards the top and we had some amazing views of mountains for miles around. Here is the route we took taken from my Garmin watch: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/326300316.
Got back down and had a bit of wine and a BBQ. All in all a pretty good day and we were all pretty tired but stayed up til about 1 talking nonsense. Got up next day feeling pretty goosed so we just packed up and headed back to the car. Stopped off in Fort William on the way home for a nose around and Davey went through a car park height restriction thingy resulting in 2 bikes on the ground! Pics along with descriptions are below.
