Highs & Lows
The last few weeks have been a mixture of highs and lows.
Grandma passed away on 24th June - although incredibly sad for us we know it was the best thing for her which made it a little easier to accept. She reached the ripe old age of 96 and had led such a fulfilled, family-oriented, and at times difficult life and we all have great memories of her as a Mum/Grandma/Oma!
Grandma's cremation and church service was held on Thursday 6th July, with Maaike, Bart, Martine & Ernst making the trip over to join us in celebrating her life. The following day we scattered Grandma's ashes out off the flat rocks near the Point in PSM and then spent time looking through old family photo albums and reminiscing on our memories and stories of Grandma (many of which were highly amusing!). Although an emotional few days it was also such a lovely opportunity to get together with the Thomas family..something we don't do enough of.
On Friday night I headed to Shorty's for a catch up with the girls, and more importantly to have a curry to encourage babs to make an arrival! Unfortunately the curry obviously wasn't hot enough to have the desired effect...although it was a nice night seeing everyone!
The twins birthday party on Saturday 8th July provided some well-needed light-relief family time...although it was officially my due date there was no sign of the little one arriving and we were able to enjoy the celebrations along with J&D, Mum and Pat and John. It was a lovely sunny day and the girls enjoyed playing out in the garden and opening their presents...and we all enjoyed the party food and birthday cake! After the party Glenn and I went for a little drive to Port Erin and then on to the Sound where we saw a small pod (about 10) of Risso dolphins swimming towards Kitterland from PE direction and then off out around the back of the Calf. Brilliant!
We rounded off the weekend on Sunday with a BBQ at Glenn's Dad's - Glenn's cousin (Andrew) and family were over to catch some of the Southern 100 that's on next week so it was nice to catch up with everyone while enjoying burger/sausage/lamb/chicken!!
So, it's been an eventful, emotional yet also enjoyable, family-filled couple of weeks which has given us the chance to see lots of the family before our little one arrives!
