Day trip to Anstruther & St Andrews – 21 Feb
Lucky for us the couple of days I'd booked off work coincided with a spell of nice weather, so on Monday morning Glenn and I packed up the campervan and headed off over the Forth Road Bridge to Fife. We had initially planned taking a few days to complete a loop taking in Anstruther and St Andrews on the east coast and then coming back via Callender however we ended up changing our plans slightly....
Once in Fife following the coast road we stopped briefly at Elie and then continued around the coast to the bustling town of Anstruther where we parked the van and sat in the sun to enjoy a £3.50 small fish dinner....delish! Suitably full we then completed a 6 mile return walk along the coast to Crail following the Fife coastal path. Although the walk was completely flat we enjoyed taking in the sights of the Isle of May, interesting rock formations and lots of local seabirds also enjoying the sunny weather. On returning to the van we continued up the coast to Kingsbarns where we had potentially planned an overnight stay however there was a big sign saying no overnight camping...and as it was only 5.30pm at this point we decided to continue up the coast. About 15mins later we were in St Andrews and we headed down along West Sands road next to the beach. Again, we had thoughts of staying here (despite the big 'no motorhomes or camping' sign)..however it was actually pretty darn cold by this point so we made the executive decision to drive home (as it was only 1.5 hours away), having enjoyed a lovely day out.
This was actually a good trip to remind us that the nights are still really cold here in Scotland and as it gets dark fairly early you can't sit out and enjoy the evening as we like to do in the van...so I think the camper is great for days out at the moment and we'll go back to doing overnighters once we get closer to summer!
Took a few nice photos of our 'shortened' trip :
