John & Emily’s Wedding – Ireland

We're just back from a long weekend break in Ireland. We flew over to Dublin on Thursday 8th August and had time to visit the Guinness Storehouse before training it down to Killarney where we stayed for the next 3 nights. We had plenty of time to explore the town and rented bikes on the Friday to cycle round Muckross Lake which was about 4 miles south of Killarney. John & Emily's wedding was on Saturday in the neighbouring town of Kenmare so we had a scenic taxi drive over the mountains to Holy Cross Church for the ceremony. It was a lovely day - being able to share John & Emily's big day and catch up with my uni mates (some of which I hadn't seen since uni!!). The wedding reception was back towards Killarney in Muckross Park Hotel where the food, company and entertainment was great!! We had a brill day 🙂 On Sunday we got the (horribly over-packed) train back up to Dublin and booked into the Generator Hostel on the west side of the city in Smithfield. We then spent the next couple of days exploring the city like proper tourists, sampling some of the local beers and chatting to locals, visiting the museums and parks and walking round the shopping areas. It was nice to visit southern Ireland again having spent many a holiday there as a kid, however it does seem that it's a bit 'over-touristy' now and everywhere is so darn expensive which is a shame. The wedding more than made up for that though! 🙂
