Sunny August Bank Holiday Weekend (27-29 Aug)

I'm feeling nicely tired out as I write this at the end of a lovely, sunny Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday Glenn and I took the Cammy out for its first proper overnight outing on the Rock. We trundled to Peel, fueled up and grabbed some supplies from the Coop before realising we were stuck on the outside of the TT course and couldn't get further north until the roads opened! So we chilled for an hour down the beach at Glen Wyllin (the camp site was packed!) and then watched a bit of the races on Kirk Michael corner. As we had another 1.5 hours before roads opened we headed back to Peel for a pint at the Creek (initially deciding to abandon our plans of heading further north and instead going to Niarbyl for the night) but then at 7pm we decided to crack on with our plan and drove up to Rue Point near the Point of Ayre. There were about 8 other campers there, mostly all bigger motorhomes and all spaced out in little dunes so we couldn't really see each other. Glenn and I had a little wander to the beach and then had tea in the van before settling down for the night (to the sound of sporadic rain showers on the roof). In the morning the rain had cleared away; we went for a short walk along the beach before heading to Ramsey for a coffee from Costa at Mooragh park (my idea!). It was really nice being there early morning for a change...there weren't many people around and there was a 'Church on the Rock' group singing outside the cafe so the sounds of upbeat 'faith/religious' songs sang out around the park (sounds weird but was actually good!). We then nipped to the shops and then took the coast road out to Maughold Head where we had a lovely al fresco breakfast (bacon and egg bap). Making the most of the sun and peacefulness we chilled here and took a walk out to the lighthouse and up to the coastal footpath just taking in the views. Lovely! We then (reluctantly) made our way back to Douglas, ending our first overnight trip in the van on the IOM. That evening we went to Kirk Michael Chapel to support Margie and Gwen who were singing a duet (Whispering Hope) as part of the Sunday chapel service, and then we drove back to Glenn's via the Terrace Chippy in Douglas where we grabbed a combo of fish and chips, a battered sausage, mushy peas and curry sauce for tea 🙂 Today (Monday) was another lovely sunny day so we headed out on our bikes on the loop around Marine Drive from Glenn's house. The views were great! I then drove home and spent the afternoon with Mum, Ella and Erin while J&D had an affy out with the Smarts. We had great fun; playing in the garden, taking a walk around the fields to look for rabbits and chilling in the house playing games. Once the girls were picked up Mum went to the cattery and then at 8.30pm we sat down for a catch up over a plate of Queenies and bacon and a glass of vino 🙂 What a great weekend!!
